Why this exists

"Flood zone" searches mostly turn up either a paid lookup tool or a vague national statistic. FloodZoneCheck instead reports what FEMA itself already publishes for every county: a National Risk Index flood-hazard percentile, and the share of homes FEMA requires to carry flood insurance that actually do.

What goes into the number

Flood hazard scores and ratings come from FEMA's National Risk Index, which separates inland (riverine) hazard from coastal storm-surge hazard per county. Insurance-uptake figures come from FEMA's own NfipResidentialPenetrationRates dataset. Both are cited on every county page, and documented in full in the methodology guide.

County grain, honestly labeled

FEMA's parcel-level flood zone map is a live GIS service covering roughly 150 million parcels, not a bulk file — so no site can honestly claim to publish it for every address in advance. This site works at the county level and says so, and links every page to FEMA's own Flood Map Service Center for the address-specific answer.
